"Doesn't anyone know what Christmas is all about?!" Charlie Brown

Today our kids will perform their Christmas program.  It has become a staple of our Advent celebrations.  This year’s program has been co-written by Lisa and Emma Spooner, an adaption of the Peanuts Christmas Story.  It is one of my all time favorite TV programs.

I’ll never forget that my first year as a real Christian, I watched the show.  It was already becoming a classic, but like many things, I was missing so much because I was literally dead in my trespasses and sins.  I believed in God, I certainly did not want to go to perdition.  I was just hoping I was a decent enough chap for God to let me slide through.

Once I faced my sin, however, and then believed in the Risen Christ, I became a new creature.  So many subtle things changed.  One was watching the Peanuts Christmas special.  I laughed at Snoopy and sadly identified both with Charlie Brown, as well as, his mockers.  Then Charlie Brown cried out, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?!”, Linus takes the stage, and in that most famous speech, begins quoting the gospel of Luke, that is still the most iconic sound track today.

But, like Charlie I heard it over again for the first time.  Yes, today, in the City of Bethlehem there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  His name is Jesus, for He is saving His people from their sins.
